Competition Information
OVERVIEW
Teams consist of three students, with the scores of individuals being combined to form the team's overall score.
All problems in the competition are created by the BIMC executive team.
All problems are classified into four categories: geometry, algebra, combinatorics, or functions, with equal representation throughout the competition.
Calculators permitted by the International Baccalaureate are allowed for Rounds 1 and 2 but are prohibited in Round 3. Check the International Baccalaureate's list of recommended and prohibited calculators to see if your calculator is acceptable.
A formula booklet will be provided for Rounds 1 and 2, but not 3.
Empty sheets of paper for calculations will be provided for all rounds.
SECTIONS
BIMC 8
BIMC 8 is designed for middle school students of the age 13 or younger as of the day of the competition.
BIMC 10
BIMC 10 is designed for high school students of the age 15 or younger as of the day of the competition.
BIMC 12
BIMC 12 is designed for IBDP students.
ROUNDS
ROUND 1: INDIVIDUAL
Round 1 is a 45-minute long multiple-choice round with 20 questions in total. Individual scores are added up to form a team score.
ROUND 2: TEAM
Round 2 is a 90-minute long free-response round with 36 questions in total. Each team is formed of three students.
ROUND 3: PODIUM
Round 3 is an hour long verbal round for the top four scoring teams from the preceding rounds. Teams will teams compete to answer the question projected on the board using a buzzer faster than the other.
